In short, YES!
Why?
Is it better to have our dogs on harness or collar? And if so, which ones?! It can be very confusing especially with all the difference brands, advertising, and advice.
Good for dogs who pull and need to protect their necks
Less tension around neck and therefore a more enjoyable walk
Spreads tension around chest area and so less painful
Adds security to your walk
Good tool for us to have for our loose lead walking:
How to know what is good
As there is so much advice out there it is hard to know which harnesses are worth investing in.
Avoid anti pull harnesses- these use pressure and release (pain) to teach the dog not to pull
Find a well fitted Y shape harness
Ones that clip around the neck are EASIER and also less invasive to put on your dog
If using one that needs the dogs head to go through- use a treat to lure them!
Make sure shoulders have free movement
Make sure the elbow is not being blocked by having the strap roughly an inch away from front leg
If harnesses are too tight or restrict movement, this can impact their muscle growth and gait, posture and movement
Watch the video below on how to introduce a harness
