Chews
If your dog is chewing something you don’t want them to chew, find the safe alternative! E.g. if they keep going for your wooden table, get them a wooden chew. They are trying to find something comfortable for their teeth. Examples of safe dog chews include:
Yak chews
Animal chews (pizzles, tails, hooves, ears)
Hard chews
Whimzees
Nylabones
Wood chews
Anco chew roots
Cardboard box
Plastic bottle (no lid, choking hazard)
Ragger
Soft toys
Kong
Veg (carrots, broccoli)
Frozen veg
Distractions/ games
When we need a break or need to keep our dogs busy, as well as chews we can use other toys. These are also good at helping our dogs to settle. Chewing, licking and sniffing are all calming behaviours which also encourage sleep!
Licki mats (chopping board or lid to plastic box)
Kongs during meal time
Hide and seek
Snuffle mat
Scatter feeding

How to remove
We never want to take things out of our dogs mouths. This can encourage anxiety around being touched or guarding issues. If we want to remove these toys we can use the following:
Distraction
Other food
Opening fridge
Asking them to go somewhere else e.g. outside
Exchange with toy
Rustle treat bag
Your challenge
Everyday we feed our dogs the same thing in the same way. Every day, try and feed your dog differently and ditch the bowl!! You can then use your feeding time for enrichment time.
Licki mat for wet food
Kong stuffed, soaked kibble or adding meat/ peanut butter or frozen
Scatter feeding (super easy just throw it on the floor!!)
Snuffle mat
Box
Food toy
Slow feeder
